Rep Crochet Doily Pattern

The Rep Crochet Doily Pattern is a creation of repeated stitches in different sizes: small, long ... and GIANT!

Round and round you go to make an attractive circle:

Doily in four colors: light and dark pink, green, and a cream edging.Puppets size 10 thread
with a 1.75 mm hook.
Measures 11½"/29 cm across.

Here is how I worked the colors for the four-color piece in Puppets thread pictured above:

Rounds 1 - 3: light pink

Rounds 4 - 6: dark pink

Rounds 7 - 13: green

Rounds 14 - 18: cream

The pattern pictures show me working with Red Heart Crochet Thread, Size 3.

I didn't have enough yarn to finish the doily, which wasn't a bad thing as I changed to Susan Crawford's Coquette Vintage Cotton for the last two rounds - Rounds 17 and 18 - which I think looked pretty good!

Stitches and abbreviations

Stitches and Reps!

First of all, here are the US/UK stitch equivalents. The pattern is written in US terms, but I will remind everyone of the stitches for the reps throughout the pattern:

sc = UK dc - this is the only one to remember :)

dc = UK tr

trc = UK dtr

dtr = UK ttr

You will be working 3 kinds of repetition, or "rep":

Small rep = ch 3, dc (UK tr) into 3rd ch from hook

LONG rep = ch 4, trc (UK dtr) into 4th ch from hook

GIANT rep = ch 5, dtr (UK ttr) into 5th ch from hook

Tip: When I work the stitch into the chain, I work under 2 loops of the chain.

rep space = the space between your ch3/4/5 and the stitch you work to finish the rep - I'll show you in a pic below shortly.

If you are working your own creation and changing color, simply tie off where instructed, and join in with your new color where the next Round begins!

Rep Crochet Doily Pattern

Round 1:

ch 2, 8 sc into 2nd ch from hook, join with a ss into 1st sc.

You can stitch mark the ss, as we will join into it at the end of the next round.

~~~~~
In Rounds 2 - 5, we use the small reps: ch 3, dc (UK tr) into 3rd ch from hook.
Round 2 - small reps: (1 rep, skip next stitch, ss next stitch) 3 times; 1 rep, ss into joining ss from last round (stitch marked.)
(Stitch count = 4 small reps around.)
How to begin each round from now on.
Once you've joined with a ss to finish your round, you work two slip stitches.
1. ss into the little loop next to the ss you just worked into. It's stitch marked below - it's the top loop of a chain:
1st ssStitch marker showing where to work 1st ss
... then ss into the rep space (no matter which size rep you have worked) - also stitch marked below. It's the space in the middle of your rep, between your ch 3 and stitch:
Round 3 - small reps: So - ss up and into 1st rep space!
Now ch 1, sc into same rep space:
ch 1, sc into rep spaceReady to work reps for Round 3!
(2 reps, sc into next rep space) 3 times; 2 reps, ss into 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 8 small reps around.)
Round 4 - small reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc into same space.
(2 reps, sc next rep space) 7 times; 2 reps, ss into 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 16 small reps around.)
~~~~~

Round 5 - small reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc into same space.

(1 rep, sc next space) 15 times; 1 rep, ss into 1st sc.

(Stitch count = 16 small reps around.)

~~~~~
In Round 6, we use the LONG rep: ch 4, trc (UK dtr) into 4th ch from hook.
Round 6 - LONG reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc same space.
(1 LONG rep, sc next rep space) 15 times; 1 LONG rep, ss 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 16 LONG reps around.)
End of Round 6End of Round 6
~~~~~

In Rounds 7-9, it's back to the smaller reps: ch 3, dc (UK tr) into 3rd ch from hook.

Round 7 - small reps: ss up and into 1st LONG rep space, ch 1, sc same space.

(2 reps, sc next space) 15 times; 2 reps, ss 1st sc.

(Stitch count = 32 small reps around.)

End of Round 7End of Round 7, and you have 16 loops made of 2 reps each = 32 reps

~~~~~
Rounds 8 and 9 - small reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc same space.
(1 rep, sc next rep space) 31 times; 1 rep, ss 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 32 small reps.)
~~~~~

In Rounds 10 - 12, we'll work the LONG reps: ch 4, trc (UK dtr) into 4th ch from hook.

Round 10 - LONG reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc same space.

(1 LONG rep, sc next rep space) 31 times; 1 LONG rep, ss 1st sc.

(Stitch count = 32 LONG reps.)

End of Round 10End of Round 10

~~~~~
Rounds 11 and 12 - LONG reps: repeat Round 10, working 1 LONG rep into each LONG rep space!
Finish with a LONG rep and a ss into the 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 32 LONG reps at the end of Round 12.)
~~~~~

In Round 13, it's time for the GIANT rep, hooray! - ch 5, dtr (UK ttr) into 5th ch from hook.

Round 13 - GIANT reps: ss up and into 1st LONG rep space, ch 1, sc same space.

(1 GIANT rep, sc next rep space) 31 times; 1 GIANT rep, ss 1st sc

(Stitch count = 32 GIANT reps.)

End of Round 13 with the GIANT repsEnd of Round 13

~~~~~
For the rest of the pattern, we work the smaller reps: ch 3, dc (UK tr) into 3rd ch from hook.
Round 14 - small reps: ss up and into 1st GIANT rep space, ch 1, sc same space.
(2 reps, sc next GIANT rep space) 31 times; 2 reps, ss into 1st sc.
(Stitch count = 64 small reps)
Round 14 workedAs I come to the end of Round 14, I'm running out of yarn!
~~~~~

Rounds 15 - 18 - small reps: ss up and into 1st rep space, ch 1, sc same space.

(1 rep, sc next rep space) 63 times; 1 rep, ss into 1st sc to join.

(Stitch count = 64 small reps.)
