Here's a whirly little crochet flower with shells worked at an angle to create a rather jolly effect:
|
I've worked this in a cotton sports weight yarn and a 3 mm hook.
Our flower measures 2 inches/5 cm across.
You can use the written pattern below which is in both US and UK terms - or check out my step-by-step photo tutorial just below.
Do be sure to follow my instructions about weaving in your final tail end carefully to preserve the shaping of this energetic piece!
US Terms:
Round 1: ch 4, 9 dc into 4th ch from hook, ss into top of 4 ch to join.
Round 2: ch 4, 7 dc into 4th ch from hook, miss next stitch of round 1, ss into next stitch. First petal made.
*ch 4, 7 dc into 4th ch from hook, miss next stitch of round 1, ss into next st* for the second petal.
Repeat from * to * three times for the third to fifth petals, working your last ss into the joining ss from your first round.
To finish: tie off, sew this tail end through the little round hole/space at the bottom of the first petal worked and weave the end into the back of the first petal - see pics below.
UK Terms:
Round 1: ch 4, 9 tr into 4th ch from hook, ss into top of 4 ch to join.
Round 2: ch 4, 7 tr into 4th ch from hook, miss next stitch of round 1, ss into next stitch. First petal made.
*ch 4, 7 tr into 4th ch from hook, miss next stitch of round 1, ss into next st* for the second petal.
Repeat from * to * three times for the third to fifth petals, working your last ss into the joining ss from your first round.
To finish: tie off, sew this tail end through the little round hole/space at the bottom of the first petal worked and weave the end into the back of the first petal - see pics below.
Round 1:
ch 4, 9 dc (UK tr) into fourth chain from hook, slip stitch into top of ch 4 to join.
I have stitch marked the slip stitch - and we will be working into this stitch at the very end to finish.
~~~~~
Round 2:
Now chain 4, and work 7 dc (UK tr) into the fourth chain from hook:
Miss the next stitch of round 1, and slip stitch into the next stitch.
(So do not work into the first stitch where you started. Miss the next stitch. Then work into the next stitch!)
The first petal is done:
*Chain 4, work 7 dc (UK tr) into fourth chain from hook, miss the next stitch of round 1, and slip stitch into the next stitch*
Two petals worked:
Repeat from * to * for pattern until you have five petals.
Your 5th petal will be slip stitched into the joining slip stitch from round 1, which is stitch marked:
Cut your yarn and tie off.
Pull the knot gently to tighten:
Then thread the tail end into a needle, and sew that end through the space at the bottom of the first petal, front to back:
Turn to the back of the flower, and weave that end in through the back of the first petal.
Then weave in the other end, and....
You're all done :)
I had great fun making these, hope you do, too!
